HOW IS AN IBCLC DIFFERENT TO A BREASTEEDING COUNCILLOR?
An IBCLC is an internationally recognised healthcare professional with extensive education in lactation and infant feeding. To become certified, IBCLCs must complete university-level health science education, specialised lactation training, supervised clinical practice and pass a rigorous international examination. Certification must also be maintained through ongoing professional development and recertification.
Breastfeeding counsellors provide valuable peer support based on training within their organisation and, in many cases, their own breastfeeding experience. They offer encouragement, practical guidance and emotional support for families experiencing common breastfeeding challenges and can help parents access additional care when needed.
In addition to being an IBCLC, I have a Bachelor of Nursing, Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (specialising in neonatal care) and a Master of Teaching.

DO YOU OFFER IN-HOME CONSULTATIONS?
DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR IN-HOME CONSULTATIONS?
I offer in-home consultations in the aim of being convenient for my clients. I understand many of my clients have had caesarean sections therefore limiting the ability to drive. Alternatively, a have a clinic room in Bulimba, 4171, for appointments if travelling to me is preferred. If a remote consultation (FaceTime or Zoom) is the most convenient option for you please get in contact to discuss further.
The cost of an in-home consultation is all inclusive. If you live outside of a 15km radius (approximately) of Brisbane 4171, there is an additional charge. See radius map below. Please reach out to discuss further.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY INITIAL CONSULTATION?
Once you have booked your appointment, I will send you a confirmation email with all the important information. This will include info about finding the Bulimba Clinic and parking (if you have booked an In-Clinic consultation). I will also ask some basic questions about the reason for the consultation and for any relevant medical history. Having some background information prior to the consultation helps me be well prepared with information and resources relevant to your situation. There is nothing specific you need to prepare, but it can be helpful to think about your breastfeeding goals and what is important to you and any questions you have, even if they seem small — no question is too simple
ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR THE CONSULTATION?

DO YOU OFFER CONSULTATIONS ON THE WEEKEND?
I don't keep my booking system open on weekends. However, if you are in need of an urgent consultation and it is the weekend, please call or send a text. I always try and be as accommodating as possible. Weekend consultation will incur an additional fee of $40.
HOW WILL I KNOW THAT MY BABY IS SAFE WITH VISITORS IN MY HOME?
I am fully vaccinated and can provide proof of certifications and serology if desired.
HOW DO I PAY FOR THE CONSULTATION?
At the end of the consultation you will receive an invoice via email. I ask that invoices are paid within 48 hours after the consultation.
DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE REBATES?
Some families may be eligible to claim a private health insurance rebate for lactation consultations. Eligibility varies between health funds and policies, so it is best to check with your insurer before booking.
If you are unsure, feel free to contact me before booking an appointment with your health fund details, and I can assist you in confirming whether a rebate may be available.
Please note that final approval of any rebate is determined by your private health insurer.
